This crest was created to unify all of the college students who have chosen to remain independent, rather than join a Greek letter sorority or fraternity. Gamma Delta Iota or GDI represents the term Gosh Darn Independent. (or maybe not "gosh darn" who knows. Anyhoo-here is the crest on a shirt.
